Purpose

The purpose of the Sun Gate Foundation scholarship is to provide tuition and/or necessary books, supplies or other educational related expenses to obtain a diploma, certificate or degree.

Eligibility

Eligibility for a Sun Gate Foundation scholarship is predicated on the applicant’s participation and/or completion of a recognized non-profit, government or private program designed to assist survivors of human trafficking in their recovery.

Application

Please email scholarships@sun-gate.org to obtain an application. In addition to filling out an application, survivors are required to:

  • Write an essay not to exceed 500 words that outlines
    • Trafficking experience
    • Importance of education
    • Financial need
  • Provide two letters of recommendations: one from the participating organization’s case manager and one from another official within that program on letter head
  • Transcript – if not applicable, please submit a letter explaining why a transcript is not applicable.
  • Acceptance letter into college/university, vocational program, high school, etc.

Selection Process

Selection for a Sun Gate Foundation scholarship is based on funding availability, previous SGF scholarship award, and scholastic standing (if you are not a first time applicant). Once an application is completed and accepted, the final decision will be made by Sun Gate Foundation’s Board of Directors/Scholarship Committee. Applicants will be notified of final decision by the case manager listed on the application or the SGF Scholarship Committee.

Awards

Awards for the Sun Gate Scholarship will be paid directly to the school or program on behalf of the scholar.

SPRING SEMESTER: December 1

SUMMER SESSION: March 1 FALL SEMESTER: June 1

For non-traditional and other program start dates, submission should be made no later than two (2) months prior to start date
